A guide to the city, its neighborhoods, and its homes.
Mountain View sits between Palo Alto and Sunnyvale. It has a busy downtown on Castro Street, a Caltrain and light rail station, and major employers including Google.
Homes include post-war single-family houses, Eichlers, and a large supply of townhomes and condos, many built in the last 20 years.
US-101, SR-85, SR-237, and Central Expressway all pass through town. I-280 is about 10 minutes south.
Caltrain stops at Mountain View station downtown and San Antonio. VTA light rail runs from downtown toward Sunnyvale and San Jose.
Townhomes and condos make up a large share of sales, so the citywide median depends on the mix that sold. Check single-family and condo numbers separately.
Mountain View has rent stabilization rules for many apartments. If you are buying a rental property, check which rules apply.
Most of Mountain View is in the Mountain View Whisman School District for kindergarten through 8th grade. Some addresses in the south part of the city are in the Los Altos School District. High school students attend the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District.
School boundaries change. Confirm the assigned schools for any address with the district before you buy.
Shoreline Park has trails, a lake, and bay views. The Stevens Creek Trail runs north to the bay. Cuesta Park and Rengstorff Park have playing fields and courts.
Castro Street has dozens of restaurants, and part of it is closed to cars. Shoreline Amphitheatre hosts concerts.
