About Redwood Shores

A guide to the city, its neighborhoods, and its homes.

Redwood Shores is a neighborhood of Redwood City on the bay side of US-101. Developers built it on former salt marsh starting in the 1960s, around a system of lagoons and levees.

Homes include single-family houses, many on the lagoons, plus townhomes and condos. Most sit in planned developments with HOAs. Office campuses line Marine Parkway and the waterfront.

Getting around

US-101 runs along the west edge. Ralston Avenue and Holly Street lead to Belmont, San Carlos, and Caltrain, and SR-92 is a few minutes north.

The nearest Caltrain stations are Belmont and San Carlos. Redwood Shores shares Redwood City services, and its ZIP code is 94065.

Condos and townhomes
Complexes near the office parks and along the bay, often with pools and gyms.

Homes

Most homes date from the 1970s through the 2000s. Many sit in planned communities with HOA dues, architectural rules, and shared amenities.

Newer condo and townhome projects have added supply near the waterfront.

Schools

Redwood Shores is in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District for kindergarten through 8th grade and the Sequoia Union High School District for 9th through 12th grade.

School boundaries change. Confirm the assigned schools for any address with the district before you buy.

Parks, shops, and things to do

The San Francisco Bay Trail loops around the shoreline. The lagoons are used for kayaking and paddleboarding.

Marlin Park and Shorebird Park have playing fields and open lawns, and a library and shopping center sit near the center of the neighborhood.

What to check before you buy

  • Redwood Shores relies on levees for flood protection. Check the current FEMA flood zone and any flood insurance requirement by address.
  • Read the HOA documents, budget, and reserve study. Ask about planned special assessments.
  • Homes built on bay fill can show settlement. Look for cracks, sloping floors, and doors that stick.
